    WAKEBOARD boots BUYERS GUIDE

Buy Wake's guide to what boots / bindings will work for you.

    wake boots

Also known as bindings. Wakeboard boots comfortably attach you (your feet) to the board. Originally just a strap of rubber, now different options offer high tech boots to suit specific rider needs. The best pair of bootsfor one are ones that fit your feet and your style of riding, although there are boots that fit a range of sizes which is great for sharing a board with family and friends.

A new board is great, but it can be argued that the right set of boots will add an incredible amount to your riding. A wakeboard boot should always have a snug firm fit. This will connect you directly to your board giving you the most control. If closed toe, like a shoe you want your toes just touching the end but not to the point of being uncomfortable. You ideally don’t want any heal lift so a boot / binding that locks your heel in is important.

Boots come in different flex patterns to support different riding styles. A more flexible ankle gives more of a free ride feel on the water, allowing you to tweak or poke the board easier. This free feel will however have less ankle support. A stiffer boot will offer maximum ankle support and more response and control. This boot will be stiffer so it will be harder (but not impossible) to tweak and poke your board.

    system boots

Hyperlites System Boots are similar to a snowboard set up with a duel ratchet strap binding and a ‘heavier’ boot that is worn all the time. This system is great for a cable park or winching by offering the maximum sole protection when walking around a site. It’s also just as at home riding behind the boat. This set tup offers a rider maximum connection to the board which in return creates maximum control. The boots and bindings are purchased separately meaning the whole boot set up doesn’t need to be replaced in the future. Great for intermediate to advanced riders.

    Walk liner boots

Another popular cable option, it is a traditional outer boot shell that has a removable walkable liner. Offering a fully customisable fit with a range laces and Velcro or gummy straps means its adjustable to the rider’s needs. The walk liner offers protection around the cable park or winch spot and in some boot options the liner is available to purchase separately. Great for beginners to advanced riders.

    Traditional step-in boots

Coming in closed-toe or open-toe options depending on how you’re
planning to use the boots and who is going to use them. Open toe boots are a boot that provides breathing room for your toes. Originally the only boot option, these are a great choice for a someone still growing and also for people sharing the same board and boot set-up. By being able to fit different foot sizes does mean the boot is likely to be softer and therefore offer slightly less responsiveness and control.

The closed-toe option is a high-end boot that often offer a multi-size fit or a specific shoe sized boot. Some closed-toe boots come with a mouldable liner and offer the maximum connection, custom comfort and control between the rider and the board. Both open and closed-toe option are great for beginners to expert riders.
